The ISO working group TC59/SC13/WG6 recently submitted the ISO/DIS 12006-3 version 3 for consideration as a Draft International Standard. The previous (and now obsolete) version 2 almost unanimously passed the CD ballot, but the comments received at that stage required WG6 to have another good look at some parts of the standard. This has been carried out in the meantime. All outstanding issues have been resolved with the revised version 3 as result.
The ISO working group TC59/SC13/WG6, working closely with ICIS and IAI, and chaired by Paul Jansen (CROW foundation, The Netherlands), was tasked by an agreement between the Standing Conference organizations to develop a ‘Framework for Object-oriented Information’ (work-item 12006-3). The committee has elected to use EPISTLE version.3.1, the IFCs and the LexiCon-model as starting points.
The standard started off as a PAS (Publicly Available Specification) and has been submitted for DIS ballot, coming soon. The PAS version has become obsolete. The WG6-documents on this site will give you insight into the evolution, the issues and resolutions. The ISO-standard 12006-part 3 itself (momentarily in DIS status) must be acquired from ISO.
ISO 12006-3 provides the model with which we can populate our object-libraries so that they fulfil the need of this terminology framework. Implementers are already working with it, in close cooperation with the International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI). The Norwegian BARBi library and the Dutch STABU-LexiCon are available object-libraries. The French SDC (Standard Dictionaire for Construction) is being made compliant. Harmonization with the Industrial Foundation Classes (IAI) with regard to property sets, is well under way. The work just mentioned is momentarily being done by IAI workgroup XM7, chaired by Kees Woestenenk (STABU, The Netherlands.
The following documents have been generated to date. Future documents will be posted as they become available:
